Experience


Dr. Weyde is familiar with tax issues of private equity, debt, hedge and similar funds as well as their investors. He has many years of experience in advising sponsors as well as institutional and private investors.

Through many years of practice in an international law firm, Dr. Weyde is also conversant with the taxation of international service providers or their owners. This includes the taxation of entitlements in foreign pension plans and company pension schemes.

Management and employee participation programs may raise complex tax questions. Dr. Weyde devised employee participation programs, advised managers in respect of the tax treatment of their participations and supported in connection with criminal investigations.

Dr. Weyde supports in tax audits and represents clients in proceedings before the tax courts and the Federal Tax Court. He has experience with the handling of tax questions that arise in proceedings before ordinary courts and in arbitration proceedings.

Dr. Weyde advises private individuals on numerous tax topics. He has extensive experience in succession planning for individuals with assets located in different countries. His field of activity encompasses the transfer of property to non-profit foundations or companies as well as the taxation of Anglo-Saxon trusts.

Real estate taxation, including cross-border real-estate investments, real estate transfer tax, VAT and the evaluation of real estate for tax purposes, also forms part of Dr. Weyde‘s area of expertise.

Dr. Daniel Weyde has many years of experience advising multinational und international clients.  He has worked intensely with US-, British, French and Italian tax experts on complex cross-border arrangements.   Besides, he has experience in cooperating with tax lawyers in Austria, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain and South America.

Dr. Daniel Weyde obtained an LLM. Taxation from New York University. He is fluent in English and Polish and proficient in French.

PERSONAL PROFILE


Dr. Daniel Weyde, born 1965, has extensive and wide-ranging experience in the field of taxation. He advises German and international businesses and individuals.  He has developed special expertise in the taxation of financial products and in international tax law.

Dr. Weyde obtained his doctorate in 1996 summa cum laude under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Haimo Schack. He studied law at the universities of Bonn, Bielefeld und Toulouse and obtained an LL.M. in taxation from New York University in 1997. Er is admitted as a lawyer (Rechtsanwalt) in Germany since 1995 and as a licensed tax advisor (Steuerberater) since 2000.

From 1995 to 1996, Dr. Weyde was an associate at the law firm Meilicke, Hoffmann & Partner in Bonn.  From 1997 to 2022, Dr. Weyde practised at the international law firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, since 2002 as partner and head of the German tax team and since 2021 as Senior Counsel. Since 2023 he practises in his own law firm.

Dr. Daniel Weyde is a member of the International Fiscal Association. He organized several lectures on international tax law for IFA’s Regional Group Rhein-Main-Neckar.
